Two beautiful architectural models of the 1940s were donated to the AA Archives this week by Gillian Hopwood and John Godwin. The first is a cardboard model of the auditorium of a new theatre school proposed for the Old Vic Theatre. The design was for a 1949 AA Fourth Year ‘live project’, with the French director, ┬áproducer and designer, Michel St Denis acting as┬áthe real client. The model was exhibited in the Building Centre in the summer of 1949 but now is in need of some careful restoration.


In better condition is a rather elegant model of a timber roof truss, created by Gillian Hopwood as a technical studies exercise in her AA Second Year, 1947:
