Two beautiful architectural models of the 1940s were donated to the AA Archives this week by Gillian Hopwood and John Godwin. The first is a cardboard model of the auditorium of a new theatre school proposed for the Old Vic Theatre. The design was for a 1949 AA Fourth Year ‘live project’, with the French director, producer and designer, Michel St Denis acting as the real client. The model was exhibited in the Building Centre in the summer of 1949 but now is in need of some careful restoration.
In better condition is a rather elegant model of a timber roof truss, created by Gillian Hopwood as a technical studies exercise in her AA Second Year, 1947:
