Gillian Hopwood, of the influential Nigerian firm of architects Godwin and Hopwood, has this week donated to the AA Archives her entire set of AA drawings from 1945-1950. Consisting of 3 portfolios the work comes complete, in many cases, with the project briefs, jury comments and preparatory drawings. The project shown here is Gillian’s joint 5th Year thesis, with John Godwin, for a Co-Ed Boarding School at Farnham, Surrey, 1950. Godwin and Hopwood set up practice together in 1954, working in Nigeria, where some of their most significant work includes the Faculty of Sciences Building at the University of Lagos, the GlaxoSmith Headquarters, Lagos, and the Bishop Court Building, Ikeja, Lagos.
